Did she pay $39k USD for Tucson? I am leasing one for $229/m w/ $0 down on 36m. And my "front collision warning" is NOT working well. It only beeps 1 out of 12 times, when it should & I have it on "early." So, would I trust it to hit the breaks for me? NOT A CHANCE! If it goes well for the next 36m & exterior hold paint etc..., then I will consider a purchase at the end of the lease for $13k. This was an emergency purchase, as per a pretty skirt & the pandemic surge in used car prices. I'm likely back to my frugal self & buy used cheap. Notice, I leased 2021 & NOT 2022. Never buy on the model change or major upgrade! Scotty, you keep saying 80's & 90's cars are better. I was in garage body repair business back in the 90's. We always said these craps are not quite up to snuff of '60s or '70s. Back to the future, Hah! Got my wife a brand new S80 when I got married, which expired only a few years prior to being divorced. I should have got her a Lexus (used)?

(long nasal exhale) There's just too much to know. Every time I've gone to a private dealer I've been reamed. Maybe I looked for a rusty frame (they painted over it), looked for flecks under the hood (no leaking, but engine is cracked and they'd cleaned any mess), test drive (they all last a week before dying, flywheel teeth wearing out, didn't become a problem until they wore down enough to slip a few months later), and has anyone dealt with a private owner or dealer who just lets up put on an obd2? Or let you take the car to a mechanic before buying? There's only one piece of advice that works in our system. Be rich. Don't be not rich.

I own a 2001 Mazda Tribute V6 and it's the same as the Ford Escape. 2001 was the first year for the Escape and Tribute. My Tribute still runs fine and everything works accept the CD player broke last year and one of the electric motors was stuck on ON and would drain the battery. The CD unit had a broken plastic gear and I couldn't repair it, so I completely removed the CD part and the radio works fine. It's been a pretty good car and parts are easy to get from the Ford dealership or your local auto parts store. It's loaded with everything including a sun roof, towing package and OEM roof rack, so I can't see trading it in and spending $40k for a new comparable Ford Escape.

We are the original owners of a 07 escape with 160,000 miles or the 4cyl 5 spd manual and it has plenty of power and our other 05 escape 4cyl auto has 241,000 miles and it’s even on its original transmission which most ford automatics dont make it past a 100,000 miles. The majority of v6 escapes were problematic and the people I have known with them have had a lot of issues. The four bangers are the way to go.

I'd take a v6 or a large 4 cyl in an suv over a turbo, even with the hit on gas mileage. The turbos as not as good on gas as people think, it depends on the way you drive, if you are spooling up the turbo all the time, your mileage will go down
